Welcome Post + Expectations

  Hi delegates! We are so excited to welcome you to BMUN 71 and the SOCHUM committee. In this committee, you will be discussing the intersection of disability and poverty, stigma, and more as well as the intersection of the COVID-19 pandemic on ongoing conflict and refugees in Latin and South America. Our first topic addresses the Stigma-Reduction of Disabled Individuals in Developing Countries. Our second topic addresses The Effects of COVID-19 on Refugees in Latin/South America . This blog will act as our committee’s more informal avenue for discussion and communication before the conference– and we’d love to see you interact with it! The purpose of this blog is to (1) allow you to actively engage with the content of this committee and (2) give you all the opportunity to learn about other countries policies before the debate actually starts. Vice Chair Introduction: Jaina Doshi

Hi everyone!! My name is Jaina Doshi (she/her/hers) and I am beyond excited to serve as one of your Vice Chairs for BMUN 71's Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee! I am currently a freshman intending to double major in Psychology and Public Health on the pre-medical track. Specifically, I am passionate about mental health advocacy and creating greater access to health services in low-income communities. This is my first year in BMUN, and my seventh year being involved in MUN. Outside of BMUN, I am also involved on campus in the ASUC Mental Health Commission, serving in the external department. In my free time, I love to explore new coffee shops, go on hikes, and make jewelry. I look forward to seeing the collaboration facilitated throughout the debate, and meeting you all in person! Head Chair Intro: Karishma Patel

Hi everyone!  My name is Karishma Patel and I will be your head chair for BMUN 71's Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee (Third Committee). I am so excited to see you all in March! In this post, I'll share a little bit more about myself! Please check out the other introductions of my brilliant and inspiring vice-chairs as well!  I'm currently a second-year majoring in Sociology and minoring in Public Policy on the Pre-Law track. I am super interested in topics related to human rights, sustainability, public health, and neocolonialism. Vice Chair Introduction: Diego Huezo

Hello everyone!  My name is Diego Huezo (he/him/his) and I will be one of your Vice Chairs for BMUN 71’s Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee. I am a sophomore from El Salvador  majoring in Computer Science at UC Berkeley. I have always been driven by the crossroads between technology and economics. More specifically, am highly interested in the improvement of financial accessibility within underdeveloped communities through technology. This is my second year and BMUN and have also been a Vice Chair for the SPECPOL committee. Outside of BMUN, I love spending time outdoors, surfing with my friends, and listening to music.

  Hello hello! My name is Sanaa Sodhi and I’m a sophomore studying Political Science with a concentration in International Relations and a minor in Public Policy. I’m so excited to get to know you all as your Vice Chair of SOCHUM! I’m extremely passionate about international topics related to human rights so I’m very interested to see how our topics play out in committee. Both Topic A and B are relevant and nuanced topics. I’m especially interested in seeing the unique solutions that delegates will work towards in committee.   This is my second year being involved in BMUN and MUN overall.
